Bright Star Campaign Network (BSCN) was born out of Bright Star Campaign (BSC), inspired by its utmost powerful influences of operation campaigns during the Sudan government and Sudan People’s Revolution/ Movement SPLA/M. The Sudan People’s Liberation Army/Moment SPLA/M created the operation campaign in 1988, five years after launching the Revolution on Sudan Government on 16 May 1983, under the able leadership of Dr. John Garang De Mabior. The South Sudan intellectuals, Army leaders, students, and politicians picked up arms by rejecting the oppression imposed on them by the then Sudan's government. The commander in chief (C-in-C), Dr. John Garang De Mabior, established the most potent Revolutionary Unit of commando, well-trained, disciplined young soldiers who were chosen from all the SPLA Battalion. They were trained and commissioned to be given the toughest task ever, the toughest one that would break the enemy back on the battlefield. These forces led the fierce intensive combat against the Sudan Government Forces between 1988-1997.

The BSC’s objective and mission was to launch an operation campaign to capture and liberate the eastern bank of the Nile, from Upper Nile, Eastern Equatoria, and Central Equatoria. And to force the Sudan Government to force troops out of Southern Sudan corridors and open the borders of East Africa’s neighboring countries: Kenya and Uganda. This campaign was a success. The BSC face 1 captured most of the Upper Nile cities and towns in Eastern Equatoria and Central Equatoria, except Yei and Juba in Central Equatoria. The BSC face 2 came into existence in 1990.  The BSC had two objectives,  (1) carry out the operation campaign on the western bank of the Nile from Western Equatoria to Western Bharl Ghazal, and  (2) starting from Lanya, Maridi, to Boo on the border of Congo where the Sudan Army Forces (SAF) set foot on Boo bridge where operation intensified and lasted for two years without a breakthrough. The BSC ended in 1992 and was   followed by Operation Jungle Storm (OJS), another well-thought-out campaign plan meant to take over and execute operations planned in central Equatoria. OJS campaign did another phenomenal job defending SPLA/M liberated areas while continuing the operation’s expensive campaign plans on Sudan Government controlled areas. In 1996, OJS ended and was inherited by another campaign Operation Thunderbolt (OTB). The OTB campaign started in 1996 until the CPA was signed in 2005.

Given the moral story found above, it is what led to the media network naming. The Bright Star Campaign Network (BSCN) Media was inspired and will take the internet and the world of social media by storm the same way BSC took the liberation. BSCN will push for journalistic education in the face of informing and educating South Sudanese around the globe in the same way BSC carried out its operation campaign during the Revolution. South Sudanese deserve to know better, to be informed and educated about the history in the digital age.
